Radical Unveils 2010 Racing Plans At Autosport International
19th January 2010
Radical formally unveiled its new sponsors for the popular Clubman’s Cup and European Masters racing series at last weekend’s Autosport International Show, held at the NEC, Birmingham. In 2010, they will be called the Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup and Shell Racing Solutions Radical European Masters respectively, reflecting Radical’s technical partnership with these two established brands.
As part of the arrangement, competitors in both series will receive high-quality jackets and merchandise, alongside the usual superb technical and parts backup. The Clubman’s Cup’s new four-race format at selected rounds proved popular with prospective racers at the show, as did the challenging six-round calendar of the 2010 European Masters.
Both the Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup and the enduro-format Radical UK Cup will again feature on the Dunlop Great & British Motorsport Festival package, with a television deal signed at the show that will see every Clubman’s Cup, and G&B-based UK Cup rounds televised. At Pembrey in June, the Clubman’s Cup will also feature live coverage for the first time. Alongside Sky TV coverage, races will also be available to view on Radical’s new Radical TV on-demand web TV service.
Clubman’s Cup grids will be full by the end of the week, and UK Cup grids two-thirds full, with 11 weeks still to go before the season opener at Rockingham. Talks with a sponsor for the UK Cup are at an advanced stage, and competitors in this series will receive merchandise too.
Radical’s German, Swiss, Dutch, Italian and Czech distributors attended the show, the latter announcing the inaugural Radical Central & Eastern Europe Open Cup. Aimed at SR4 owners across the region, Radical Czech & Slovak Republics will be offering limited-edition runs of only 40 cars to competitors in Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, 10 in each country. Each car costs only €36,200 and includes racing licence costs, and entry fees for the series. Jarno Born and Andre Kool from Radical Netherlands visited the show with several SR3 buyers, competing in the new Radical Netherlands Cup this year, on the acclaimed Dutch Power Pack package. Also, following discussions at ASI, Italian Radical distributor Tonino Esposito is visiting the factory to place a five-car SR4 order for the new Radical Italy Hillclimb Cup.
Finally, unveiled this week was the new Radical German Cup, an SR3 RS-based series visiting Germany’s most popular and challenging circuits. Running to similar rules as the Radical Netherlands Cup, and using Radical’s 1340cc SR3 RS, the series will share grids with the Radical European Masters at Spa-Francorchamps, the Nürburgring and Zandvoort.
