Eco Racing Launches Revised SR9

17th May 2010

Ian Dawson’s Eco Racing squad have unveiled the latest development of their Radical SR9 LMP2 car, in preparation for an ALMS campaign later in the year.

Now running a Nissan V8 petrol unit in replacement of the AER V10 turbodiesel the team used last year, the chassis have been developed in advance of proposed rule changes in ALMS, to take effect in 2011. The car was seen in its new black and gold livery testing at Snetterton, with sportscar veteran Harri Toivonen at the wheel.

Eco Racing has developed the aerodynamics in line with current LMP practice, keeping the SR9 competitive in its fifth year of competition and beyond. The upcoming rule changes will require LMP2 cars to use production-based engines, similar to those found in current GT2-specification sportscars. Eco Racing have chosen the Nissan V8, developed in conjunction with engine builder IES, to power their chassis.

Another SR9-Judd, the former Rollcentre car that first competed at Le Mans in 2006, is also competing in the Le Mans Series this year with Swiss team Racing Performance, proving the SR9’s enduring usability, reliability and cost-effectiveness as an entry-level LMP2.
