Radicals Descend On Yas Marina For Season Finale
11th October 2010
Radical’s pan-European Radical Masters series moves out to the Middle East this weekend, for the final two rounds of 2010 at Yas Marina circuit, Abu Dhabi. Guest driving at the event are some of Europe’s hottest racing talents, including four from the Formula Two Championship.
Dean Stoneman, 2010 Formula Two Champion, is amongst them, driving a Radical SR3 RS fielded by Radical UAE, whilst this year’s F2 runner-up and multiple race-winner Jolyon Palmer will be competing in a Radical Works Team SR8. Fellow F2 drivers Benjamin Bailly and Kelvin Snoeks will also be competing, sharing an SR8 with Slim Racing.
F2 isn’t the only international series represented. 2009 Le Mans Series vice-champion, Pescarolo driver Christophe Tinseau will get his first taste of Radical racing behind the wheel of one of Radical France’s SR8s, with former Porsche Carrera Cup champion Damian Faulkner also driving a Radical for the first time, paired with local racer Raed Abu Zinada in an SR3 RS. Radical veteran Michael Vergers will be making his first Radical race start this year during the three-day meeting.
Series champions Terrence Woodward and Ross Kaiser are contesting the event for 360 Racing, a fortnight after Kaiser won the Sunoco Daytona Challenge, and a drive at the 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona. Hot on their heels will be Jamie Patterson, alongside a strong continental SR8 contingent. In the Supersports Class for the SR3 and SR5, UK Cup protagonists Mark Smithson/Stuart Moseley, Chris Hillaby, Pete Osborn/Alex Kapadia and Radical’s Phil and James Abbott, will be competing against drivers from Saudi Arabia, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Pakistan amongst others.
42 cars will be taking part in the single-marque event, with drivers from all around Europe and the Middle East competing, after which the 2010 Radical Masters overall and class champions will be crowned at a prestigious awards dinner at the Yas Hotel. The action kicks off with first practice at 09:00hrs local time on Thursday.
